# Frequently Asked Questions

***

## General

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="What is Passr?">
    Passr is a compliance infrastructure platform for outdoor and activewear brands. It helps you generate and manage **Digital Product Passports (DPPs)** — the machine-readable compliance records required by EU ESPR — and publish them to consumers via scannable QR codes.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Who is Passr built for?">
    Passr is designed specifically for **mid-market outdoor, activewear, and apparel brands** selling into the European Union — typically brands with revenues of €2M–€50M that have a compliance function but don't yet have enterprise-level regulatory software.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Do I need a Digital Product Passport right now?">
    The EU ESPR DPP mandate is not yet in force — it's expected to become mandatory for most textile categories between **2027 and 2030**. However, the French AGEC law is already in force and requires specific transparency disclosures for brands selling into France. Preparing your DPP infrastructure now gives you a head start and positions your brand as a transparency leader.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What's the difference between Passr and a general compliance software?">
    General compliance tools are built for regulatory lawyers and quality managers working with complex frameworks across many industries. Passr is purpose-built for apparel brands — specifically for EU ESPR, AGEC, and PFAS compliance — so the data model, workflows, and outputs (QR codes, public passports) match exactly what the regulation requires with no unnecessary complexity.

## Products & Passports

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="What is a GTIN and where do I get one?">
    A GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) is a globally unique product identifier issued by GS1 — the same number encoded in standard barcodes (EAN-13, UPC). Your products likely already have GTINs if you sell through retail. If not, you can purchase a GS1 membership and issue GTINs at [gs1.org](https://www.gs1.org).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I publish a passport before all my compliance data is complete?">
    Yes. Passr shows a **Completeness Score** per product. You can publish a product with partial data — the passport will show what's available and indicate that additional data is coming. We recommend a minimum score of 80% before publishing for consumer trust purposes.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What happens to existing QR codes if I update my compliance data?">
    Your QR codes always point to the same URL (`verify.passr.eu/01/{GTIN}`). When you update the Compliance Locker, the public passport updates immediately — there's no need to reprint or redistribute QR codes. Your physical labels stay valid indefinitely.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I archive a product without losing its compliance records?">
    Yes. Archiving a product hides it from your active catalog but retains all compliance data and scan history. Archived product passport URLs remain accessible. If you need to remove a product entirely, contact support.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can consumers trust the data on my passport?">
    Passr passports display data exactly as your team enters it. To help consumers distinguish verified claims from unverified ones, we automatically badge certifications that have an uploaded certificate document (e.g. GRS, GOTS) as **Certified**. Lab reports are linked as downloadable documents so consumers can verify them directly.

## Suppliers

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Do my suppliers need a Passr account?">
    No. Suppliers receive a secure, single-use upload link via email. They fill in the data form and upload documents directly — no account or login required on their side.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What if my supplier misses the deadline?">
    You'll see the request marked as **Expired** in the Supplier Requests dashboard. You can reopen the request, set a new deadline, and resend the link in one click.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How many supplier document requests can I send?">
    There is no limit on the number of supplier requests you can send, regardless of plan. Requests don't count against your SKU limit.
  </Accordion>

## Compliance & Regulations

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Is Passr compliant with GDPR?">
    Yes. Passr is GDPR-compliant. Scan analytics are anonymised and aggregated — no personally identifiable consumer data is collected or stored. All data is hosted in EU-based infrastructure.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does Passr cover the French AGEC law?">
    Yes. Passr's supply chain mapper and material composition tools directly address the AGEC-specific requirements for assembly location disclosure, dyeing location disclosure, recycled content, and recyclability. See the [Regulations guide](/docs/regulations) for a detailed breakdown.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I use Passr as evidence in a regulatory audit?">
    Yes. Passr maintains a full audit log of when data was added and by whom. You can export all compliance records as CSV files at any time. Certificate documents are archived with their upload timestamps, providing a verifiable evidence trail.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What standard does Passr use for QR codes?">
    Passr implements the **GS1 Digital Link** standard (ISO/IEC 18004), which is the standard referenced in the EU ESPR DPP technical specification. QR codes generated by Passr are compliant with this standard out of the box.

## Billing & Account

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Can I try Passr before paying?">
    Yes. All new accounts start on a **free trial** with full feature access. There's no credit card required to start. Upgrade when you're ready to go live commercially.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What happens if I exceed my SKU limit?">
    You'll receive a dashboard warning when you're approaching your limit (>90% used). You won't be able to add new products until you upgrade or archive existing products to free up slots.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I switch plans at any time?">
    Yes. You can upgrade at any time — the new plan takes effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Is my data safe if I cancel?">
    Your data is retained for **90 days** after cancellation in a read-only state. Export your compliance records before cancelling if you need to keep them for audit purposes. See the [Billing guide](/docs/billing) for details.
